APA recommends
that an academic writing should be typed and double-spaced, on standard 8 ½”
x 11”, 20-pound white paper and the all four outside margins should be set at 1
inch. It is also relevant to use letter Times new
roman 12 pt when citing different sources. First of all, a suitable way to cite
a book is writing the author´s surname, followed by the initial letter of his
name. Then, the year of publication in parenthesis followed by a period. After that, the title of the
book should be in italics and capitalize only the first word of the title and
subtitle. Finally, the location and the
publisher have to be included, separated with a colon. If
the work cited has two authors, name both authors in the signal phrase and in
parentheses at the end of the quotation. For the latter, separate their names
with the "&" symbol.
To cite articles
from scholarly journals, place the author´s name, last name. After that, the year
of publication between brackets and the title of the article followed by a
period. Finally it is including the volume
number, issue number, and page numbers.
If the cited source
is a magazine, APA recommends
place the surname and name of the author. Then, the year and date between
brackets. In italic text type write the title of the magazine followed by a
comma, and the volume and the pages.
Citing newspapers is similar to the citation of magazines. However,
after the title of the article it is necessary to include the title of the
newspaper in italics and after a comma the page number(s). P for a single page
and PP for double pages.
To cite encyclopedias, the first thing
to include is the author's surname .Afterwards; add the title of the article followed
by the name of the encyclopaedia and after that, the volume and the inclusive
pages between brackets and separated by a comma. Finally, the city of publication and the state of publication:
Publisher.
Finally, to cite a web site source, the format is the following: Author, A.A. & Author, B.B. (date of publication).
